Cartoon Movie: already 100 distributors from 23 countries, 180 buyers, +650 participants
Record number of distributors registered, strong creative projects, new Cartoon Games concept… the 14th Cartoon Movie looks promising!
From 7-9 March in Lyon, animation producers will pitch 50 feature projects to find financing, co-producers and distributors. European animation takes a big leap in stereoscopic 3-D accounting for 40% of the projects, doubling last year’s figures.
Another trend is the growth of adult-skewed films: 20% of the projects tackle mature subject matters such as war (“Another Day of Life”, “Cafars”), Nazism (“Young Perez”), difficult childhood (“It’s a Zucchini’s Life”, “The Island of Lost Children”), Alzheimer’s (“Wrinkles”), and even the birth of universe (“Alpha”).
Famous comics authors Enki Bilal (“Animal’Z”) and Arthur de Pins (“Zombillenium”) will direct their own film based on their albums.

The power of connections: great success for Cartoon Connection Canada-Europe
The city of Quebec welcomed about 150 animation professionals from 14 countries last week for the second edition of Cartoon Connection Canada-Europe. This event aimed to relaunch coproductions between Canada and Europe for animated series and feature films.
The warm atmosphere, insightful keynotes from more than 30 speakers and well-organised business "speed datings" have contributed to the efficiency of the event, highly appreciated by all the participants.
Several co-production deals should be signed as a consequence.
The next edition will take place in Quebec in 2012.
