Who is eligible to attend the Cartoon Movie?

  1. European animation producers, whether presenting a project or not (producers whose registered office is located in one of the countries associated with the MEDIA Programme: the 27 EU countries + the 3 EEA countries (Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein), Croatia and Switzerland)
  2. Distributors, investors and broadcasters (regardless of the distribution platform), sales agents, new platforms
  3. Institutional partners
  4. The general press and the specialized press

What is included in the registration fee?

  • a badge, which will allow you to participate fully in the Cartoon Movie
  • the presentation of your trailer during the Croissant & Coffee Shows in front of all participants
  • the presentation of your project in front of all the potential buyers interested in your project (business session)
  • the presence of your company and its representatives in the Cartoon Movie catalogue
  • the presentation of your project in the brochure
  • the audiovisual equipment you will need for your presentation
  • the benefit of a consultant’s expertise who will act as a session chairperson during your business session
  • shuttle buses services
  • the professional membership and administrative costs
  • your hotel reservation (reservation only)
  • interpreter services (if requested beforehand)
  • a personal labelled pigeonhole
  • a communication centre (fax, photocopier and Internet)
  • a press centre

As well as the following meals:

  • Welcome Dinner on Wednesday
  • Farewell Dinner on Friday
  • 2 lunches (Thursday and Friday)
  • 2 breakfasts served during the Croissant Shows and 2 Coffee Shows

I can only attend one day of the Cartoon Movie. Do I have to pay the full registration fee?

Unfortunately yes. The Cartoon Movie is not a “à la carte” market like other ones (with stands) but rather a global “menu” concept of 2 intense days.

I paid my registration fee but now I have to cancel my trip, what's the procedure for getting a refund?

You must submit a cancellation request in writing as soon as possible including the name, company and contact details of the original registrant.

For cancellations made in writing before 27 January 2012, participants won't be refunded the subscription costs of 250 EUR. There might also be costs related to the flight ticket, depending on the conditions applied to it.

For cancellations made in writing after 27 January 2012, participants will remain liable for payment of the participation and subscription fee, for the hotel costs and for the flight ticket depending on the conditions applied to it.

Which credit cards are accepted?

VISA and Master Card / Eurocard.

Can I register on line?

You can download the registration form from our website but we ask you to send us a signed copy by fax or by email (by scanning the signed document).

When can I register?

From beginning of December until beginning of February, taking into consideration that hotel rooms will be allocated according to time of registration.

Do I have to go through CARTOON to book my hotel room for the Cartoon Movie?

No, you can book a hotel yourself if you wish, but you should know that CARTOON has negotiated special rates with a list of hotels in Lyon.

What is the letter of interest?

To be able to present a new project, a producer must obtain from a market partner, whether broadcaster, investor or distributor (regardless of the distribution platform), a short letter showing interest and sponsorship for the project (not necessary for projects in concept).

It should be interest only, not a firm commitment to fund or distribute the project.

Are the deadlines strict?

Yes, we require from the producers to comply with the deadlines set by the organization in order to enable the Cartoon Movie to take place in the best possible conditions and to give the best chance for projects to succeed.

The only flexibility that we give is the deadline for the project submission. If a producer needs 2 or 3 extra days, the project will be considered as "submitted" if requested in writing to CARTOON before the deadline.

Can I contact the buyers prior to the Cartoon Movie?

The buyers have explicitly asked not to be “flooded” by information or appointment requests before the Cartoon Movie. That’s why CARTOON does not release buyers’ contact details to producers.

What is the role of the chairpersons?

Presenting a new project in front of a large audience (from 25 to 250 persons, depending on the interest expressed for the project) isn’t an easy task! Especially when the final goal is to convince the auditors to invest in it.

In order to help the producers with this crucial mission, CARTOON has decided to assign to each of them a neutral, experienced animation professional acting as a moderator.

The role of these chairpersons is to help the producers to prepare their presentation the weeks before the Cartoon Movie and to assist them during the business session itself. Their neutral position allows them to introduce in a positive way the production team as well as the developed project and to deal with potential questions from the public. It is the role of the producers however to defend their project. The producers and the chairpersons agree on a presentation scenario, the producers remaining master of their project.

We have noticed that this way of working helps tremendously the producers and enhance the professional aspect of the project presentations.

What are the Croissant & Coffee Shows?

As a prelude to each half-day of work, CARTOON will invite all the participants to the Croissant & Coffee Shows. This is when CARTOON will screen the trailers of the projects to be discussed that day. The aim of these daily screening is to inform participants and encourage other financial partners to take part in the producers’ business sessions.

What should be the format of the trailer?

Format : Full HD (Quicktime file)

  1. Video track
    Frame rate: 25 frames per second
    Frame size : HD 1920 x 1080
    Codec : Apple ProRes 422 (or H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC @ 5-10.000 Kbps)
  2. Sound track
    All files with stereo audio

Language: English or with English subtitles

Content: An attractive and catchy presentation of your project, showing its «essence» (a teaser or a nice extract of the pilot film (if it exists).
This trailer will be screened during the Croissant & Coffee Shows in front of all participants.

No logo or company name at the end/beginning of your trailer
Your trailer will be edited with the other trailers for the Croissant Show screening and we will add the project title, company name and presentation room in the same way for all the projects.

What kind of audiovisual equipment is available in the room for the presentation of my project?

Both studios will be equipped with a big screen, a Playback Pro computer system for HD files, a DVD player, a CD player and computer connections.
In addition, one of the studios will be equipped for stereoscopic 3D screening.

You will have to bring your own computer. If you are using an Apple iBook, don't forget to take your VGA-Adapter with you.

Once you are registered, you will receive a technical form where you will be able to specify the devices you need for your presentation.

Are there interpreters during the project presentation?

Yes, you will be proposed the services of an interpreter. You will have to specify the language spoken during your presentation on the technical form you will receive once you are registered. English, French, German, Italian and Spanish can be used as active languages. However translation is made only into French and/or English.
