2001 - Cartoon Forum BAYERN

1999 - Cartoon Forum CÓRDOBA

For the first time, the Forum went up into the mountains. This small Bavarian town in the Alps welcomed us warmly with beer and pretzels, and 703 participants were delighted to meet up again with Willi Rehm, the Singing Mayor.

The conference centre was perfect for the Forum's needs, and producers presented 79 projects. These included «Dragon Hunters» from Futurikon, ««Bjorn the Bear» from Colorpop, «Corneil & Bernie» from Millimages, «Dragons Rock» from Gum Studios, «Cloud Trotters» from Pausoka, «Loulou» from Pictor Media, «Paniques» from La Parti Production, «Lilly the Witch» from Trixter, «Sprogs!!» from Gullane Entertainment, «The Island of Inis Cool» from Mc Camley Enter- tainment, «The Living Forest» from Dygra, «Yoko! Jakamoko! Toto!» from Colling- wood O´Hare and «Zoé Kézako» from Sparkling*.

After the presentations, the delegates took a mountain train up to snowy Zugspitze, the highest summit in Germany, and also visited Linderhof, one of Louis II of Bavaria´s castles and its surrounding parkland.

The poster created by Ted Sieger cleverly conveys the atmosphere of the Forum, already famous for its Mayor´s yodels.

Fanfare on ice

1999 - Cartoon Forum CÓRDOBA

The Cartoon d´Or took place in the Olympia Zentrum ice rink. The traditional Garmisch-Partenkirchen fanfare opened the evening, followed by an ice hockey match and fi gure skating from the young people of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The Cartoon d´Or was awarded to Michael Dudok de Wit for his fi lm «Father and Daughter».

The closing party was as always an evening of dancing and singing and went on late into the night.

1999 - Cartoon Forum CÓRDOBA

Chilblains, «yodelling» ma yors and animated success Frostbitten on the Zugspitze, parties at the «Peaches», delicious Bavarian «Schmankerln»-specialities, the fi rst ever Cartoon Forum-CD-Rom, sponsored by KI.KA, featuring trailers of the projects presented and a «yodelling» mayor. Guess what I am talking about? Exactly! All the before mentioned are golden memories from the Cartoon Forum 2001 in Bavaria, more precisely in the nice Olympic town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where author Michael Ende («Neverending Story», «Momo» and «Jim Knopf») was born.

With over 700 professionals and 79 projects this Bavarian edition was the most successful Forum ever at that time. Award-winning programmes like «Corneil & Bernie», «Lilly the Witch», «The Island of Inis Cool», «Paniques», «Boo», «Sprogs!!», «Code Lyoko» (aka «Garage Kids»), «Molly, Star-Racer», «Dragon Hunters», «Zoé Kézako», «Yoko! Jakomoto! Toto!» and «Anima Baltica» («The Hydronauts») were born at the erstwhile place of Olympic victories where instead of Gold medals for Olympic records this time a great number of projects won the necessary partners for their realisation. There are just a few tools in our industry that are really helpful and effi cient and I consider the Cartoon Forum as one of them. Thanks to Corinne, Marc and the team of Cartoon in Brussels!
