2000 - Cartoon Forum GOTLAND

1999 - Cartoon Forum CÓRDOBA

Another island. This time, in the middle of the Baltic Sea. It had long provided a refuge for Ingmar Bergman, and the location for Pipi Longstucking. With such a cinematic pe- digree, Gotland was an ideal location for the Forum.

The medieval town was ideal for our 622 participants with its winding streets, fl owered parks and gentle light.

That year the Forum took place in a very unusual location, Syderbys Herrgard. It was an old farm that had been converted to a hotel and conference centre, with meeting rooms in rather chilly barns, meals in a circus tent and the bar located in a central courtyard full of Nordic sun.

Many of everyone´s strongest memories of Visby are of two impromptu performances. The Mayor of Garmisch-Partenkirchen who yodelled to the great delight of 1999 - Cartoon Forum CÓRDOBA 622 participants, and the evening of the Cartoon d´Or, where in a ruined church, wrapped in blankets, we were captivated by the superb, unaccompanied, pure crystalline voice of Ase Kleveland, director of the Swedish Film Institute. And the Forum brought us 74 projets including «Binka» from Honeycomb Animation, «Creepschool» from Happy Life, «Kid Paddle» from Dupuis France, «Les Zanimodingos» from Marlou Films Productions, «Cosmic Cow Boys» from Alphanim, «Tales from Saint-Patrick´s Graveyard» from Les Films de l´Arlequin, «Pongwiffy» from Telemagination, and «Tom» from Cromosoma.

Our poster was created by the Gotland artist Kerstin Rosenqvist.

The Cartoon d´Or was awarded to José Miguel Ribeiro for his film «A Suspeita».

We cannot leave Gotland, without remembering the welcome party where Vikings awaited us with rather strong drinks in glasses that had to be hung round our necks.

1999 - Cartoon Forum CÓRDOBA

Each Cartoon Forum brings back very special memories – a rich mixture of friends and business contacts and the discovery of new talent.

For me, personally, Visby evokes more than just the business aspect. Firstly, the light. It was very special, very intense, and unique to Visby.

Another memory. A surprising group of cyclists composed of Bertrand Mosca, Christian Davin, Charles Benloulou, Karine Evrard and myself. We had noticed on arrival that cycling was THE form of local transport. So we rushed to hire bicycles and that was how we got around during the entire Forum – including the tourist trips.

It was wonderful to cycle each day to the Forum. It gave a sense of freedom. I think that some of the other participants may have envied us as they set off each day, as usual, in the buses. We arrived at the presentations a little dishevelled, with rosy cheeks, happy, fresh and ready to go. Wonderful moments, reminiscent of childhood… which in a way brought us closer to our audience.
