1993 - Cartoon Forum INVERNESS

1993 - Cartoon Forum INVERNESS

When we think of Inverness, we first remember the final evening. Surprisingly, we were not sure it would be a success. An hour´s bus journey, unpredictable weather all day, but a haunted castle in pure Scottish tradition, with a delicious candlelit supper and the lingering music of bagpipes, harps and Celtic violins. The Greek participants got the party going by climbing on to the tables to dance. And then the moment´s craziness seemed to affect every one. Suddenly, normally very serious people were dancing madly, Cartoon Forum Inverness pictureothers clinging to the statues after the whisky tasting. Ralph Steadman´s poster of an ebullient Scotsman really sums up the atmosphere.

1993 - Cartoon Forum INVERNESS

Excursions were organised – a boat trip to Loch Ness and a visit to a whisky Cartoon Forum Inverness picturedistillery brought people together. This was the year when people started to talk about our extended animation family. Talking of which, we received a visit from a member of the Royal family – Prince Edward!

Inverness, also gave us the ceremony of the Haggis, with chef, bagpipes and a glass of whisky.

Also, it was the first year that chairpersons were present with the producers for all their presentations.

1993 - Cartoon Forum INVERNESS

It was in Inverness that I felt that Cartoon really demonstrated its strength. We even had a visit from Prince Edward.
When I entered the vast room where we had our meals, I remember being very impressed by the number of participants. I was even a little worried that, because of its growth and success, our Forum would not be the same. But of course I was wrong, and the organisation was as excellent as always and the projects just as impressive.

Many of these projects went into production. We had our fi rst taste of «The Old Lady and the Pigeons» which went on to international acclaim and festival prizes. We saw little «Kirikou» for the fi rst time, and he of course then went on to such a brilliant future. Scotland matched up to its reputation. We ate haggis, drank whisky early in the morning, visited (apparently) haunted castles and beautiful lakes.

It was all very intriguing, and we invested in projects such as the real history of Christmas, Prince of Atlantis, Orson and Olivia, and tales of Romuald... We also saw the arrival of the fi rst CGI series («The Quarks»), full of wonderful stories for children, with fun, crazy characters and where monsters were banished to the bottom of the sea.
